Blog #3: Mean girls, Animal Scenes

I have chosen to write about the “Girls Gone Wild” scene from the movie Mean Girls. This is a classic scene from the movie that contributes all of the aspects of the movie at one time. There are two different scenarios going on in this one scene but they intertwine with ideas intertwine with each other. In the fighting incidents there are large group of people, mostly females, fighting and wrestling one another. The sounds in the background are of two things, actual fighting and animal noises. I think this is relevant because there are two scenes in the movie where the main character, Cady, refers to how certain situations would be taken care of in “the animal world.” In these animal world scenes, the characters jump on top of each other and the noise that comes out of them are those of animals growling and making angry noises towards one another. In this scene, we are not supposed to be viewing the characters as if they are animals in Africa but instead we are viewing them as fighting like animals in a real like scene. The angry animal noises are then used in this scene to portray that the girls are acting like animals in the way that they’re fighting. That’s shots are organized so that we are focused on one or two main characters at one time as they reflect on the situation but in the background we see the girls fighting and the intense growling noises. The camera is usually zoomed in on the main characters and then it slowly zoom out to show a hallway full of chaos. The start of the scene shows the fighting and then then office scene where the principle is stating that is the contents of this book are scene than their will be chaos in the school. But little does he know that the chaos is already taking place. I think this adds a comedic element to the movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPYqRaOm1ak
